Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, there have been many articles published regarding what to do at every stage of wedding planning given the ongoing situation. But what if you aren’t even at the wedding planning step yet? What if you are just trying to find the right moment to pop the question?
Many people dream of asking their partner the big question over a special dinner, perhaps with an expensive bottle of champagne and a slice of chocolate cake which may or may not have a diamond ring in the frosting. Quarantine weddings have created a spark of creativity, and the same thing goes for couples who are waiting for the cue to take the next step.
Post-pandemic weddings aren’t possible without a man or woman taking the first step. So, without further ado, here are some tips for how to deliver a special post-pandemic proposal.

Pick A Moment To Recreate

During the months of quarantine, many picked up random hobbies to distract themselves from the reality right outside their door. Channeling this same creativity when planning a wedding proposal will definitely make the moment special. One idea is to recreate your first date or a vacation that meant a lot to both of you. Of course, hopping on a plane to Bermuda or going out to eat at your favorite neighborhood restaurant may be out of your comfort zone, but who says you can’t recreate the same ambiance in the safety of your home? Perhaps now you may feel safe enough to take a weekend trip to a sweet bed and breakfast, sleeping in late and popping the question over breakfast in bed, or going on a hike similar to the backpacking trip you took two years ago, will do just the trick.
Mariah Harris had originally planned for a private dinner with her girlfriend Brea baker. Instead, she brought Brea on a walk when there was a full moon, which Brea had once said was a symbol of eternal love. Mariah got down on one knee with a moonstone ring and Brea said yes. She went on to say that “I thought just because it's not what I planned doesn't mean that it's not a good proposal. I can modify my plans, and it'll be just as good, if not better. That's what ended up happening. I loved it so much more. It happened exactly how it needed to happen.”

Be Creative With The Resources You Have

Again, creativity is your friend here. COVID-19 has forced couples to become more creative with how they say those four words — and many couples have stepped up to the plate. From drawing the Eiffel tower in chalk on a brick wall to organizing an unconventional picnic or using a ring pop as a diamond ring, these couples aren’t letting the virus stand in their way of living the rest of their life with their SO.
Think outside the traditional wedding box. Why play a cringy autofilled Spotify playlist, when you could hire a local band to serenade your lover? Who says you can’t propose abroad when you have a box of spaghetti in your pantry? Why not string photos which depict every step of your relationship around your apartment?

Modern Technology Is Your Friend

Similar to when it comes to planning a wedding or birthday party during the pandemic, platforms like Facetime and Skype can allow you to share this special moment with your extended family and friends — if that is what you want. Of course, some couples may want to keep the question and answer private, but after all is said and done why not throw a cocktail party with those who mean the most to you so you can celebrate this milestone together? Similar to online dress shopping, you can now find a ring online too — but who wouldn’t want a ring pop instead?
While it may be emotionally painful to propose to your partner when you are not in the same room, if you are still isolated in separate locations, Zoom is your gateway to popping the question sooner rather than later. This boyfriend even proposed over an IGTV Live workout — forget the plank, there is better exercise to be had!

Keep It Simple, Keep It Safe

As the States begin to enter phase two of the emergency, with regulations lifting, it is still important to abide by public health mandates of social distancing and wearing masks. So, even in the frenzy of planning the perfect Plan B, C, or D engagement, remember to keep your future bride or groom healthy and safe. This, of course, doesn’t mean the moment can’t be special to you both. Often it is the simple things in life which mean the most. Mark Wasmund proposed to his girlfriend Emily O’Gorman with a puzzle, ring, and a congratulatory video from her favorite video celeb.

Ultimately It’s About You And The Person Who Love

If anything, the coronavirus pandemic has reaffirmed the power of love and proven that even in hardships, couples will find a way to make it happen. After all, if you can survive quarantine with your partner, surely you are soulmates. Even during the lowest of lows, in your sweatpants hour seven of Outer Banks with banana bread in your lap, you could pop the question and he or she will say yes because, at the end of the day, love is love.
Congratulations to all the newly engaged couples!
