8 Ways to Prepare for Your Boudoir Shoot

Exclusive access to expert wedding planning advice and resources from top industry professionals.
Ok, so boudoir shoots aren't for everyone... But for the bold bride willing to bare all (or almost all) for special keepsake photos, you're going to want to make sure you're feeling camera ready for the big day! Here are eight ways to prepare for the super intimate and oh-so-personal photo sesh:

1. Determine the desired mood.

Before booking the shoot, figure out how you want these images to look. Do you want to go nude or partially nude, or don lingerie? Do you want the shoot to be full on sexy or sorta sweet? Your desired look for the shoot will help you find the perfect photog and finalize outstanding details like the venue, wardrobe, and props.

2. Find a photographer you feel comfortable with.

You’re going to be getting superclose with your photographer, so it’s important that you feel at ease with this person. Do your research on whether or not he or she has prior experience with this kind of shoot and take the time to meet beforehand.
It’s also important that you read the photographer’s contract carefully prior to signing. If you don’t want these photos made public, you’ll need to double check the agreement as some photographers may have it written in the contract that they can circulate the images via their portfolio, blog or social media channels.

3. Determine a location.

Choose a location that you feel relaxed in. Whether it’s your bedroom, the photographer’s studio, or a field in the middle of nowhere, you’ll want to ensure that you’re totally at ease on the big day.

4. Purchase lingerie.

Find bras, underwear, slips, and robes that make you feel awesome! We definitely think this is the time to splurge on a few timeless pieces that will not only look great in photos, but that you can wear for years to come.

5. Research poses.

While it may feel awkward to research poses ahead of time, it will be even more awkward on the day of if you don’t know what to do. We recommend checking out wedding blogs, Pinterest and Loverly for pose ideas, then testing them out in front of a mirror to determine if the pose is a flattering fit. Most likely your photographer will help direct and pose you during the shoot, but it’s best to be ready just in case.

6. Prep your body and skin.

You’ll want to look and feel your best on the day of the shoot. Prep your body and skin by getting a wax or shaving unwanted hair (remember your photog might get real close…), avoiding spray tans or dramatic tan lines and giving your skin a gorgeous luster by drinking tons of water, eating healthy foods, and making sure to moisturize.

7. Get glammed up on the day of.

We recommend getting your hair and makeup done before the shoot! You’ll have these photos for a long time, so make sure you love the way you look.

8. Amp up the confidence!

You’ll need to feel uber-confident and sexy on the day of to ensure the shoot runs smoothly. Say some confidence-boosting mantras and remember that you’ll look awesome no matter what.
Now, take a deep breath, relax and enjoy your boudoir shoot!
